bild.gif

Tune into this episode of ePN TV to hear John Toskey’s take on eBay Deals. Promoting eBay Deals is a great way to draw the attention of new and reactivated buyers, which in turn will help you increase your earnings. eBay Deals are updated daily across all categories. Not only do they include free shipping, but the prices are also often better than what you’d be able to find anywhere else. John cites one of his recent Deals purchases, where he was able to get a pair of Converse All Star Chuck Taylors for under $30, delivered to his door within two days with free shipping.

Introducing an Improved Mobile Experience

mobile_shopping_epn.jpg

We are excited to let you know that on Wednesday, September 9, we will begin rolling out an enhanced mobile experience to help you boost conversion rates for your mobile visitors.

With this improved experience, your mobile visitors who click through to an item listing page and already have the eBay app installed will be automatically directed to view the listing in the app.

This experience will launch for partners sending traffic to the Australian program on September 9, with all countries following shortly thereafter. All app traffic will be tracked and compensated for, and detailed mobile app traffic reports will be introduced soon.

Watch this video from global director John Toskey to learn more:

At this time, the new mobile path only applies to view item pages, and visitors who don’t have the app installed will receive the same mobile experience that they have today, with no prompt to download the app.

ePN partners don’t need to do anything to enable this service. If for some reason you’d like to opt out, you can do this by following the instructions below. You can complete this opt out activity now, before we roll this out for the programs in which you participate.

As John mentioned, we strongly recommend that you do not choose to opt out! Our beta testing results have shown improved conversion rates, which will help you earn more money with eBay Partner Network.

To opt out: Add the parameter &ul_noapp=true to the View Item URL, or MPRE, but not the rover link. The sequence in which the parameter is added does not matter; it should just be added and encoded as part of the View Item URL.

For example: A sample View Item URL is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-XPS-13-Infinity-Display-Quad-HD-Touch-Ultrabook-i7-5500U-8GB-256GB-SSD/371407265256?hash=item5679991de8

A sample rover link pointing to this item would look like: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=1234567890&toolid=10001&campid=1234567890&customid=&mpre=

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-XPS-13-Infinity-Display-Quad-HD-Touch-Ultrabook-i7-5500U-8GB-256GB-SSD/371407265256?hash=item5679991de8

You’ll append the &ul_noapp=true opt-out parameter to the View Item URL, so it will look like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-XPS-13-Infinity-Display-Quad-HD-Touch-Ultrabook-i7-

5500U-8GB-256GB-SSD/371407265256?hash=item5679991de8&ul_noapp=true

The encoded roverized version of this link will look like: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=1234567890&toolid=10001&campid=1234567890&customid=&mpre=

ePN TV: John Toskey Talks New and Reactivated Buyers

keyboard.jpg

In today’s episode of ePN TV, global director John Toskey discusses the 200% commission bonus ePN gives publishers for attracting new and reactivated eBay buyers (defined as those who haven’t made a purchase within the past 12 months). Publishers who frequently earn this bonus are digging into the Transaction Download Report to analyze the audiences and categories that tend to drive these new buyer transactions. We hope that all of our publishers are able to take the time to do the same to understand where these new customers are coming from, and how you can optimize to earn more.

We understand that attaining this bonus does take some extra effort, which is why we provide such a significant reward. If you’d like to learn more about optimizing your efforts with the data in the Transaction Download Report, check out this blog post.

JOHN TOSKEY TALKS FUTURE OF EBAY PARTNER NETWORK

keyboard.jpg

In this episode of ePN TV, John Toskey follows up his most recent video by addressing publisher feedback, and chats about what’s coming down the pipeline for the program. John first speaks about eBay’s practice of testing website elements and pages, which has been discussed in our forum. John confirms that like most successful ecommerce businesses, eBay does have an ongoing practice of strategic testing and optimization. This process is important and will continue because it allows eBay to improve conversions, turning visitors into buyers – benefitting ePN and our publishers.

Next, John addresses a question in the forum about the strength and viability of ePN. He says that as the largest paid marketing channel within eBay, the traffic our publishers send to the site is valued, and we will continue to reward partners for doing so. He also says that year over year, we are paying more publishers more money, and we will continue to grow and invest in our publishers.

As far as upcoming projects go, John mentions our continued investment in the platform. This includes improved stability and new functionality around reporting. In addition, we are also testing a few new initiatives, including different kinds of ad units and an improved mobile app tracking process.

Finally, John thought it would be helpful for partners to have access to the latest data about our Marketplaces business. For example, did you know that 81% of eBay items are listed at a fixed price? You can see tons of great stats like this via ‘Fast Facts At-A-Glance.’

We’re excited for what’s ahead and hope you are, too. If you have any feedback for John and the rest of the team, please share it in the comments below.

ePN TV: Olivier Ropars and Brian Marcus Discuss Mobile Opportunity at eBay

ePN TV Olivier Ropars and Brian Marcus Discuss Mobile Opportunity at eBay In our latest installment of ePN TV, Brian Marcus, Director of eBay Partner Network, delves into mobile with Olivier Ropars, Senior Director of Global Internet Marketing at eBay.

Olivier has an extensive background in mobile at eBay, and he discusses how the company has really focused on mobile innovations over the past six years, propelling eBay to become a leader in mobile commerce. In fact, in 2013, eBay generated $20 billion in mobile transactions.

Olivier says mobile is so important because it has completely changed the way people shop online, providing more opportunities for the ecommerce industry, including affiliate marketers. He stresses the importance of embracing mobile technology and mobile users in order to reach all relevant customers.

As far as where our partners are now when it comes to mobile, Olivier says that he has observed a gap from those who are just getting started to those who are far ahead of the curve, similar to what is seen in the retail industry.

Lastly, Olivier provides two pieces of advice for ePN publishers who want to dive into mobile. He says that a mobile optimized website is a must, and 57 percent of publishers responding to our recent mobile survey said they do have a mobile focused site. The second piece of advice Olivier imparts is to remember mobile-optimized emails and landing pages as part of a comprehensive marketing plan.

ePN TV: Introducing Olivier Ropars, Senior Director, Global Internet Marketing

Olivier565In our latest episode of ePN TV, we’d like to introduce you to Olivier Ropars, Senior Director, Global Internet Marketing, eBay. Olivier joined the team earlier this year, having previously led eBay’s mobile efforts for the European markets. In this video, Brian Marcus, Director, Global eBay Partner Network, chats with Olivier about his new role at eBay. Olivier discusses his focus on optimizing the customer journey to eBay through key paid channels including affiliate marketing, display advertising, business development and paid search.

Brian asks Olivier to share what he sees as the biggest opportunity for eBay right now. Olivier is interested in the continued integration of online and offline buying and selling, and is excited about collaborations between eBay and brick and mortar retail stores. Examples he touches on include the ability to purchase an item online and pick it up at a store as well as using mobile apps to get product information online while in a shop.

We also learn that Olivier recently got into the “bad habit” of collecting LEGO minifigures on eBay with his children. As Olivier and his family relocated from London to Seattle for his new role, he promised his children one minifigure a day to ease the transition process. He says now the whole family is hooked, and we’re interested to see how long they keep it going!

ePN TV: Erin Stoner on best practices for working with the customer support team

ErinIn this episode of ePN TV, Erin Stoner, Global Customer Support Manager at eBay Partner Network, talks about some of the most common customer support questions as well as how you can most efficiently work with her team to get issues resolved in a timely manner. At the forefront of customer service for ePN, Erin is on top of all support questions. She says that some of the most common questions the team received in the past year centered around applications — from a rejected application due to a typo or a mismatch in business model selection, to using an old eBay logo or invalid links. Erin recommends reading through an application thoroughly to avoid any possible issues with submissions and approvals.

She also notes that when it comes to details, the more the better. Erin says that you can most effectively communicate with the customer support team by providing a very detailed description of your issue — including the browser used and any relevant tools or URLs — as well as any screen shots or videos that may help resolve the issue.

[iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/83601725" width="565" height="281" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe]

As Erin said, some issues may require several days for support to investigate and respond, but if you don’t receive a response within five days, feel free to reach out again to check the status of your query.

As always, thank you for watching ePN TV and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions in the comments below.

ePN TV: Addressing the Global Blog Needs of our Partners

UK blog launchA couple of weeks back, we announced the launch of a dedicated U.K. Blog. Since then, our team over in the EU has been working hard to bring valuable content to our U.K. Partners. Additionally, we’ve shifted our thinking in terms of looking at each blog as a localized language version of the same content. Instead, we’ve invested more thought and effort into making each blog specifically targeted to the needs of the U.S., U.K., Germany, Spain, Italy and France.

What do you think of the new U.K. Blog? Has it been helpful? What can our team do to make it more valuable? Please leave your feedback in the comments below.
